Our Commitment to Accuracy

Accuracy is the foundation of our journalism. Every article published by our newsroom is reviewed by editors for accuracy and fairness before publication.

While we make every effort to ensure our reporting is correct before publication, we recognize that mistakes can occasionally occur. When errors are identified, we are committed to correcting them promptly and transparently.

Our Editorial Process

Every story begins as a news lead or assignment and is given to a reporter for research and reporting. Reporters gather information through the provided information which may lead to interviews, official documents, firsthand accounts, and other credible sources.

Once a story is completed, it undergoes an editorial review, during which editors fact-check key information and review for clarity and accuracy before publication.

Corrections Process

If a factual error is discovered after publication, our editorial team will review the issue promptly.

When appropriate, we will:

  • Correct inaccurate facts, names, dates, quotations, or other factual information.
  • Update articles when significant new information becomes available after publication.
  • Add clarifications when additional context is necessary for readers to better understand the story.

For articles involving legal or potentially defamatory issues, legal counsel may be consulted before changes are made.

When a correction materially changes the original reporting, we will clearly note that the article has been updated.

What Qualifies for a Correction?

Corrections may be made when:

  • A factual statement is inaccurate.
  • A name, title, date, location, or quotation is incorrect.
  • Important information was omitted that materially affects the accuracy of the story.
  • Significant new verified information becomes available after publication.

What Does Not Qualify for a Correction?

Corrections will generally not be made solely because:

  • A reader disagrees with an opinion or editorial judgment.
  • Someone is dissatisfied with accurate reporting.
  • An individual or organization believes truthful reporting portrays them negatively.
  • Requests are based solely on personal preference or subjective interpretation rather than verifiable facts.
  • Differences resulting from automatic or third-party translation tools. Many of our articles are published in Mandarin Chinese, and machine translations may vary. We do not make corrections based solely on translation software if the original text is accurate.

Requesting a Correction

Anyone who believes an article contains a factual error may contact our editorial team with:

  • The title or link to the article.
  • The specific information believed to be incorrect.
  • Supporting documentation or reliable sources, if available.

All correction requests will be reviewed by our editorial staff. If an error is confirmed, we will update the article as appropriate.
